Te Roopu Oranga O Highbury Charitable Trust
Te Whare Koha Highbury was launched in 2015, by the people of the Highbury community for the people of the Highbury community. We are a registered charity that offers free food, clothing and homeware to anyone in our community. Our kaupapa is to provide a community driven independent organisation to improve the health and well being of the Highbury community. Our principles are based on the whānau ora values such as: manaakitanga (respect), whanaungatanga (social connections), kotahitanga (unity), awhi (support) and mana whenua (where you belong).
Improve access to the right service. Share what's happening in our community. Find peer support and develop skills. Be involved in community development. Enhance the knowledge and skills of whānau to better enable them to overcome health and social issues. Use the guiding whānau ora values and principles to benefit all people in our community.

Kia ora whānau,
We are on the look out for more volunteers to help with the running of our services.
• You might have a morning free to volunteer some time to our service
• You might be retired and looking for something new to do.
• You may be a stay-at-home parent looking at new ways to get back into the work force.
You might like to volunteer as a driver to take clients to appointments or help in our free food and clothing store. You may be a gardener and want to help us with re-establishing our gardens.
Some of the work involves, unloading and unpacking kai, sorting through donations, weeding gardens, hanging clothes and talking to the community.
You pick what day(s) you are available. We are open Monday to Friday 9-12 at 42 Pembroke Street Highbury.
Some great initiatives for volunteering with us are:
• Socialising and meeting new people
• Work experience
• Professional development
• Working in an inclusive team
• Working in a friendly and welcoming environment
• Upskilling
• Pathways into the work force
• Great support from the team
Another awesome initiative to join our work force is, you will be able to complete a free Certificate in Health and Well Being (Social and Community Services Level 4) whilst volunteering out our service. One of the requirements is you work or volunteer in a community service setting for a minimum of 200 hours over the period of the 36-week course. That works out to be around 6 hours of voluntary work per week! Click on the link below to find out more.
